YWG-KEF-CPH

The flight did leave for Reykjavik, finally, and despite rattling like no other plane I have seen on a real runway (you would think this thing was taking off from a runway in the outback...) It made it to Iceland, with me on it, and the flight to Copenhagen was further delayed, so after walking around some, it was time to fly on. I did not get to Copenhagen until nearly 6pm.... So the day was almost over...

We did pass the tip of Greenland on the way in, with the ice breaking off the glacier sheet, which was plain to see... And despite the well worn and fingerprinty airplane windows, here's some pics to put ice in your drinks.

Also at Keflavik airport was this Iron Maiden plane, which I thought was a tour plane, turns out, carrying on with the Iceland Express thing, this is the aircraft they run between Keflavik and Newark.

Flying into Iceland

Flying into Denmark on a 737

Denmark, or Danmak as they say it locally, is colourful enough, lots of old buildings, as the city was not bombed out during the war. There's plenty monuments around thanking the surrouding countries for their help during that war... Denmark was occupied.

Nyhaven is very colourful at night, I have to come back in the sun.

Cafe's and Carlsberg pubs galore.

Hans Christian Anderson has his famours Little Mermaid just a short walk from the hotel.

This is the entrance to an old fort, the Kastellet.

Several tugs were bringing in a sailing ship of the Russian navy...

Old meets new in Scandinavia, a la IKEA. Yes, boxy things and lots of them in black and white spring up all over, oddles of lamp and design shops too. How many can they buy? Apparently lots. Oddly, despite IKEA' main office being found over the waterway in Sweden (15 mins in a train) I have yet to see one...

And as I made my way back to the hotel, the sun comes out... Darn it, pics always better in the sun and it just comes out now...

Scandinavia is cool in many ways, the trans have wifi and digital dispalys all over, every one is super nice and super fit, rare to see the overweight and its the price of food and bicycles I think making that difference. And yes, I mean everyone!

I kind of like Copenhagen, despite the apparent graffiti art that it shares with the rest of Europe - some lovely buildings here.

I am back later in the week to take more pictures in the city, hopefully the sun will stay out.

So now it is Tuesday, and I am waiting to board an aircraft at CPH for Berlin... Only a 1 hour ride, shouldnt be too bad. The ride back in to the airport from the city took only 20 mins, and as I wait, I am eating the world's most expensive shrimp and egg sandwich, around $12.50. I should have taken the open top one, since we are doing the Scandinavian thing, but like an idiot, I chose the rye baguette, which is so darn chewy, like leather, the insides squeeze all over your face and dribble on the plate as you gnaw time and time again to break it up... Just what you want to be seen eating in an airport cafe.... Egg on my face indeed.

OK, next stop, I will be ein Berliner!

Oh, stop the presses, the plane has technical difficulties, they are trying to find us a new one.... Tranq Time!
